After receiving feedback from our membership the GYS soccer staff have decided to restructure the Winter League.

As a background, our previous attempts at winter programming where players just turn up and we put them into groups for activities/games has not been well received by our membership or staff for a number of reasons:

1. Participation numbers were not great as there was nothing "binding" the players to attend. This causes problems in planning for the staff and quality of the product the membership receive. By the players being part of a team (Winter League) we feel the fun environment, and player peer pressure will "bind" the players to attend and make their games.

2. We want to give the players a break from structured/coach dominated soccer so we feel the winter league will be a great option. The players will continue to play small-sided soccer which is great for their technical and tactical development but they will do so free from the pressure of a coach and can concentrate on having fun.

We have re-structured the Winter League so that any GYS player interested in playing must register individually by Fri Nov 16 at 4:00 PM. Players must register for their respective age group and select a division of play (for U11/U12 & U13/U14). After this deadline the GYS soccer staff will divide the players on to teams so they are as balanced as possible for each division. We will then produce a roster of players for each team and a schedule for all games. Games will be on one or both nights for each age group as listed on the registration form (this is dependent upon the number of teams). The GYS soccer staff will be there to supervise for safety but there will be little or no coaching. We want the players to just play and have fun.

During the winter training period there will be a field available each night at each time slot where GYS players can turn up and work with a coach (or on their own) to get additional training.
