LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

In 2003, the Greensboro Twisters approached The Center for Creative Leadership to create a special Leadership Development experience for one of our older teams. They graciously agreed to create a special program for us, on a pro bono basis. The 86 Green (U-17) team participated in the first 12-hour program in the fall of 2003.

As background, the then Twisters Board, with parent feedback and suggestions, began in late 2002 a process of fleshing-out several personal and character development initiatives that were in alignment with the our organization's Mission & Philosophy. We all understood that the vehicle of competitive soccer could have a much greater impact on our young people than only what happens on the field with a ball at their feet. The opportunities for personal values development within this entire environment were significant. Character, leadership, discipline, integrity, responsibility, self confidence, independence, sportsmanship and role model development are just a few by-products of the whole soccer experience............These are the values that these young people will carry with them, whether or not they continue to play soccer. As an organization, we will continue to recognize any available opportunities that embrace these ideals, for our players' lifetime benefit and growth.

As many of you know, The Center for Creative Leadership is the one of the world's most highly respected leadership development organization (In 2003, BusinessWeek ranked CCL #1 in worldwide leadership training for the third consecutive year). CCL focuses primarily on providing their services and programs to corporations, educational institutions and government entities, globally. We are extremely fortunate to have our young people exposed to a customized version of, simply, the best leadership template in the world. Very special thanks to Dr. Lily Kelly-Radford, Executive Vice President of Global Leadership Development, who immediately became excited about the prospects of partnering with the Twisters and put the wheels in motion for us.

We were extremely fortunate to have two able CCL staff members donate their time and energies in developing and facilitating this program. Susan Smith and Jeni Powell had both facilitated youth development programs in our community, with CCL and on their own time, and brought to us unique backgrounds (AND personal youth soccer experiences), combined with the significant resources of CCL. They created and designed a special program for the Twisters that was both fun and impactful - their energy and enthusiasm was contagious.......Just ask the 86 Green team.

We look forward to continuing a CCL partnership into the future and want CCL to know that they have a willing and appreciative partner for the future. This is a program that has the potential to provide our young people with a life-changing experience. Thank you CCL.......Thank you Susan and Jeni!
